The SG Voice team review the recent announcement from footwear giant Crocs, who will now attempt to achieve net zero by 2040, rather than 2030. This statement raises questions regarding the methodologies used by companies that are experiencing rapid growth while also trying to meet net zero pledges.
Biodiversity has garnered a lot of attention in recent years, gaining the spotlight during COP15, but corporate action remains slow. With more than half of global GDP, being moderately or highly dependent on nature, we must protect it if we want to avoid disruption. Given that companies are starting to account for their impacts on nature, there is a lot of work left to do.
The European Parliament has voted in favour of two proposals, which were initially announced in March, for a clamp down on greenwashing and early obsolescence. Both proposals are part of wider measures to move towards a circular economy.

In the first episode of the new Sustainable Growth Out Loud podcast, the SG Voice team discuss how half of all UK businesses have reported being impacted by the effects of climate change, according to new research from risk management and insurance broker Gallagher. The insurance industry has always used the past to guide the future, but the dynamics are changing now that we enter uncharted territory.
Another point of discussion is the Yes Recycling plant in Glenrothes, Scotland, which seemingly got off a great start, with giants such as Nestlé and Morrisons investing in its technology to turn hard-to-recycle plastics into valuable products. But the facility entered into administration only two months after its opening, as it didn’t receive enough waste to meet its capacity targets, highlighting that technology isn’t enough if it isn’t supported by an enabling environment.
Finally, linking top executive bonuses to achieving ESG targets is widely regarded as an effective measure to advance a company’s sustainability goals. So why is the fashion industry, known for its huge impacts on people and the planet, not changing its remuneration policies?
